" Prof. Yash Pal, was an eminent scientist and academician who was honored with the country’s second and third highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan.He was a man admired for his excellence in Physics.

He made some significant contributions in the study of cosmic rays, astrophysics, and high-energy physics. Aside from all these facts, he was also a wonderful educator and an excellent communicator. He worked for the benefit of the scientific community as well as for the general public.

His fame grew after appearing on a popular science series, Turning Point on Doordarshan in the 1980s, where he gained huge popularity and became a known face in every household for explaining sophisticated scientific concepts in a layman’s language.

Impressed with his scientific knowledge and communication skills his followers grew in numbers and he became famous as ‘The People’s Scientist’.He was of the view that science should be taught to people to be able to grow together as a nation and believed that it should be taught in a way that they can understand it and learn of its true value. His idea of education was to use education as a tool for improvisation in society.

For this purpose, he started several innovative programmes while in office as the Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC), in order to improve the standard of education in India. It would not be an exaggeration to claim that he is the man who reformed education system in India.

His work was never a burden to him, instead it brought joy to him as he also mentions in his biography that he would’ve missed this joy if he had not discovered it on his own. He worked diligently and continuously till the end of his days to fulfill his goals.
